Sources for dimension values

The recorded values for a dimension are generated from the data sources that are listed below:

  • Whitelist - For a dimension, you can specify the list of values that are accepted to populate the dimension. This list can be generated from the following mechanisms.
    1. Logs - When logging for a dimension is enabled, all detected values are stored in a log file. You can select to permit individual values in the logs or all values. See Adding values from logs.
    2. Importing a List - You can import a set of values into your whitelist. See Importing a list.
    3. Manual Entry - You can also specify individual entries for the dimension. See Manually editing values.
    4. Observed values - You may choose to include observed values in raw form in the dimension data. This population occurs when you select Whitelist + Observed Values for the values to record.
  • Blacklist - A blacklist contains the list of values that are not permitted to populate the dimension. Blacklists are specified in the same manner as whitelists.
    • A dimension may have both a whitelist and a blacklist.
  • Group list - A group list is used to specify dimension values in which multiple detected values are normalized to a single value. For example, you might use a group list that is called States to normalize values of CA and California to California. See Group lists.
