Using element types to customize file element processing

You can use element types to classify files and customize the way in which different classes of files are managed under source control. In various contexts, one or more file types can be associated with file system objects. File typing routines use predefined and user-defined magic files to determine a file type. How different types of files are handled depends on the element type that each file stored in a VOB has. Each element type has a type manager, a set of programs that handle the storage and retrieval of versions. Element types allow special handling of files, and provide a way to configure views.
