Overview of the portlet creation process

This section provides an overview of the steps for creating a portlet, which are described in detail elsewhere in this guide.

Before you begin

From version 9.1.2.6 onwards, you can whitelist the URLs of the pages that you want use as portlets.

To whitelist URLs, complete the following steps:

Set the following JVM parameter:
```
-DDASHBOARD_SECURITY_ENABLED=true
```
Add all the existing portlet URLs to the Platform_Admin_URL.properties file that is located in the conf directory under your Marketing Platform installation.

Obtain and prepare the URL of the page you want to use as a portlet.
To do this, you obtain the URL and modify it as needed.

You can create portlets from the following sources.
- Digital Analytics for On Premises report
- HCL Cognos® report
- Digital Analytics report
- NetInsight OnDemand report and pages on the internet or your company intranet
Note: If you are whitelisting URLs, complete steps 2 and 3. Else proceed to step 4.
Add the URL to the Platform_Admin_URL.properties file.

The Platform_Admin_URL.properties file is located in the conf directory under your Marketing Platform installation.
Stop and restart the Marketing Platform web application.
Add the portlet to a dashboard.
