Configuring the markup option

Marketing Operations provides markup tools for making comments on attachments. When Marketing Operations users send approvals for review, the approver can enter the comments directly in the electronic file which can be viewed by other users.

Marketing Operations provides following markup tools:

  • Native Marketing Operations markup: The native markup option provides various markup functions that can be applied to files in PDF, HTML, JPG, PNG, GIF, and BMP format. Users can mark up whole websites if a URL is supplied. The comments can then be saved in Marketing Operations. Native markup is the default option. It does not require Acrobat to be installed on client machines.
  • Adobe™ Acrobat markup: This markup tool requires the installation of Adobe Acrobat on each client machine. Users can apply all Acrobat commenting features, and then save the edited PDF in Marketing Operations.

The markup option is a global setting. You cannot enable different markup options for different groups of users.

Configuring the Adobe markup option

When you deploy Marketing Operations, the system is configured to use the native markup option by default. If you want to use the Adobe markup option instead, complete the following steps:

  • Select Settings > Configuration > Marketing Operations > umoConfiguration > markup. Then, configure the markup properties with the following values
  • Set markupServerType to SOAP.
  • Set markupServerURL to the URL of the Marketing Operations host server, including the fully qualified host name and the port where the web application server listens. Use the path format that is shown here, with your values substituted for <server> and <port>.

  • Set useCustomMarkup to True.

Configuration settings enable Adobe markup for all users.

Installing and configuring Adobe on client machines

For users to effectively use Adobe markup, you must install Adobe Acrobat on each client machine that is used to access HCL® Marketing Operations.

After each installation on a Microsoft™ Windows platform, you must copy the customized UMO_Markup_Collaboration.js file, in <MarketingOperations_Home>\tools under the Marketing Operations installation directory, to the client machine. Copy this file to the JavaScripts subdirectory of the directory where you installed Adobe Acrobat. For example:

C:\Program files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Acrobat\Javascripts\UMO_Markup_Collaboration.js

If an sdkSOAPCollabSample.js file exists in this directory, delete it. This file is replaced by the UMO_Markup_Collaboration.js file.

Note the following:

  • If a user cannot view comments by other approvers, the UMO_Markup_Collaboration.js file is likely missing or incorrect.
  • If you run Acrobat before you copy this file, you must restart the computer for the markup capability to be used.

In addition, users who use the Internet Explorer browser to access HCL Marketing Operations must set Internet Explorer preferences to display PDFs in the browser.
