Test distributions

A test distribution is a comma-separated list of email addresses. Because test distributions do not contain recipient-related data, they do not cause changes in the personalization fields that are contained in a document.

When you send a test messaging, you can use a test distribution to override a test list that is associated with the recipient output list for the messaging. Creating a test distribution allows you to send test messages to a production list without risk of sending messages to actual production recipients.

For example, a test distribution is required when you send test messagings that use unique permutations to evaluate conditional content against the list of production recipients. Messages are evaluated against production recipient data, but are sent to the test distribution.

Creating a test distribution

Test distributions are configured and maintained in the hosted mailing environment that Unica provides as part of HCL Unica hosted services. To create a test distribution that you can use to test your messagings, you must ask Unica to configure one for your hosted email accounts.

Submit your test distribution request to Unica Deliver Services via HCL technical support team. In the request, specify a name for the test distribution and the list of email addresses or phone numbers that you want to include. The name that you specify appears as an option on the Mailing tab in fields where you can select a test distribution. You can request more than one test distribution, but only one can be the default distribution. Specify which test distribution you want to be the default.
