How do I setup Multi Factor Authentication on Apple Devices?

There are two ways to setup Multi-Factor Authentication on Apple iOS and iPadOS devices for use by HCL Verse for iOS.

About this task

Ensure that your Traveler environment supports TOTP before proceeding with the below steps. For more information, see Mobile client support for TOTP authentication.

Setting up Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) using Apple’s Password Manager

About this task

Starting with iOS 15, Apple has added a built-in Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) capability in the Apple Password Manager. This means that you can now generate 2FA verification codes straight from the device without the need to install a 3rd party 2FA app. The 2FA verification code is added to a Password Account for a specific website stored in the Apple Password Manager. The following steps desciribe how to enable this for generating 2FA verification codes for Domino TOTP Authentication:

Procedure

  1. Go to Apple Settings > Passwords. You will see a list of websites which you have previously saved in your iCloud keychain.
  2. Tap on the website you wish to setup an authentication code for. This will be your Traveler server URL. If you don’t have it on your list of websites, complete the following steps to create a website:
    1. Tap on the (+) button to add a new website.
    2. Fill in the following details:
      • Website: your Traveler server URL
      • User Name: your Traveler account username
      • Password: your Traveler Internet password
    3. Tap Done.
  3. Upon selecting the website, tap on Setup Verification Code.
  4. You can either Enter Setup Key or Scan QR Code. If you have your setup key or QR code handy, you may choose either of the two options.
Note: Alternatively, you can skip this step because the Setup MFA procedure on the Verse Mobile clients will allow you to set up the 2FA verification code for this account.

Setting up Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) using 3rd Party 2FA app

About this task

You can also set up Multi Factor Authentication using your 3rd party 2FA app of choice. You only need the Setup Key or the QR code to set up the MFA account on your 2FA app.

Procedure

  1. For information on setting up TOTP via the mobile device, see How Users set up TOTP in the Domino documentation.
  2. On Step 2 of the MFA Setup, instead of tapping the launch icon, long press on the otpauth URI and press Copy.
  3. Launch the 3rd party 2FA of your choice and setup MFA using the otpauth URI as your setup key.
Note: This may not work on all 2FA apps.
