Configuring the SafeLinx Server to use RADIUS servers for accounting and billing

You can configure a SafeLinx Server to send accounting messages to a RADIUS server.

Before you begin

A RADIUS accounting server must be available to the SafeLinx Server.

About this task

The SafeLinx Server can send accounting packets to a RADIUS server to track the amount of data that users exchange during each session. You can configure the SafeLinx Server to send RADIUS accounting data even if you don't use RADIIUS authentication.

A dictionary file, dictionary.ewg, on the SafeLinx Server lists the accounting attributes and attribute values that the SafeLinx Server sends to the RADIUS server in different packet types. You can view the dictionary file with a text editor. On Linux servers, this file is in /opt/hcl/SafeLinxServer/conf. On Windows servers, it is in C:\Program Files\hcl\SafeLinx Server\conf.

Complete the following procedure to enable the SafeLinx Server to send accounting packets to a RADIUS server.

Procedure

  1. From the SafeLinx Administrator, right-click the SafeLinx Server that you want to configure and then click Properties.
  2. From the RADIUS accounting page, select Use RADIUS accounting.
  3. Specify the IP address and port of the primary RADIUS accounting server.
  4. If you want to configure an alternative RADIUS server to be used if the primary server is unreachable, specify the connection information in the Secondary RADIUS accounting server IP address and Secondary RADIUS accounting server port number fields.
  5. In the RADIUS accounting shared secret field, type the password or shared secret that the SafeLinx Server provides to authenticate with the RADIUS server.
To enable the SafeLinx Server to communicate with both a primary and secondary RADIUS server, the two servers must be configured to use the same shared secret.
