This guide describes how to install HCL OneTest™ API. After you install the software, you can perform administration tasks such as configuration and integration of the product. This guide is intended for administrators.

Installing the software silently
Use silent installations to deploy software to multiple systems, or to an enterprise. In silent mode, you use the command line for installation. A response file supplies the required input to the installation process.

    - Using repository locations
      If you have Installation Manager installed, and you downloaded and extracted the installation packages to your computer, you can start the installation by specifying the location of the installation file repositories.

      You can use Installation Manager to install HCL OneTest™ API when you want to use the HCL OneTest Studio or HCL OneTest API package and you have Installation Manager installed on your computer.
    - Installing the software in console mode
      If the software is enabled for console mode installation, you can opt for this method of installation. In console mode, you select installation options on the command line.
    - Installing the software silently
      Use silent installations to deploy software to multiple systems, or to an enterprise. In silent mode, you use the command line for installation. A response file supplies the required input to the installation process.

  is a server-based web application providing a central repository for virtualized services. The HCL® Quality Server allows you to use virtual services published with HCL OneTest™ API to create, share, and deploy virtualized test environments in HCL OneTest Virtualization.

  HCL OneTest™ API supports integration with various other tools for quality management, change management, software configuration management, and deployment automation tools such as UrbanCode™ Deploy or HCL® Launch.

Installing the software silently

Before you begin

You must have Installation Manager installed. For information about installing Installation Manager, see Installing Installation Manager in the Installation Manager IBM Documentation.
Create a response file by using either of the following options:
- Record a response file by using Installation Manager. For more information, see Recording a response file in the Installation Manager IBM Documentation.
- Create a response file manually. For information about creating response files, see Creating a response file manually in the Installation Manager IBM Documentation.

Procedure

From the command line, go to the Installation Manager tools directory.
- On Windows™: Depending on the version of Windows™ and Installation Manager installed, the path can be to the default location or to the location that you have specified. For example, the path can be C:\Program Files\IBM\Installation Manager\eclipse\tools.
- On Linux™: /opt/IBM/InstallationManager/eclipse/tools
Run the following command depending on the OS:
- On Windows™: imcl.exe input response_file -log log_file -acceptLicense
- On Linux™: ./imcl input response_file -log log_file -acceptLicense
Example commands:
- On Windows™: imcl.exe input C:\response_files\install.xml -log C:\my_log\install_log.xml -acceptLicense
- On Linux: ./imcl input /response_files/install.xml -log /mylog/install_log.xml -acceptLicense

Results

When the installation is complete, a status of 0 is returned. If the installation cannot be completed, a non-zero number is returned.
