The ISO character set

The ISO character set is a superset of the ASCII character set. In addition to the standard ASCII characters, this character set contains the ISO Latin-1 characters.

Each ISO character has its own value, except that lowercase characters are translated to uppercase. Two characters that have no uppercase equivalent are:
  • German small sharp s (ß - 0xDF)
  • Lowercase y diaeresis/umlaut (yuml; - 0xFF)
This table results in 68 possible unique characters, shown in the following table.
