Using the Informix .NET Provider is more efficient than accessing the Informix database through either of these two methods:

Using the Microsoft .NET Framework Data Provider for ODBC along with the Informix ODBC Driver
Using the Microsoft .NET Framework Data Provider for OLE DB along with the Informix OLE DB Provider
