Extending Informix®Beyond standard relational database objects, HCL Informix® can be extended to handle specialized data types, access methods, routines, and other objects. Informix® includes many built-in extensions that are fully integrated in the database server. Informix® also provides DataBlade® modules, which are packages of extended database objects for a particular purpose and that are installed separately from the database server. Alternatively, you can create your own user-defined objects for Informix®.
Creating extensionsYou can create user-defined data types, routines, access methods, and other database objects to suit your needs. You can use application programming interfaces to write user-defined routines and applications that access data in Informix® databases.

To run the Poem DataBlade® module:

Procedure

With Poem.sql as the active window in Visual C++, click the Debug DataBlade Module button on the add-in toolbar.
To see the tooltip for a button, place the cursor over it.
In the Executable For Debug Session dialog box, type or use the browse button to select %INFORMIXDIR%\bin\oninit.exe, where %INFORMIXDIR% is the root directory of your server installation.
Click OK.
When the dialog box appears warning that oninit.exe does not have debugging information, click OK.
If registration fails, see Registration failure with an sbspace test for instructions
If registration succeeds, IfxQuery displays the results of your SQL statements in an HTML file.
Look at the retrieved XML files (named Annabel Lee.xml, Eldorado.xml, and For Annie.xml) in Notepad.
