Extending Informix®Beyond standard relational database objects, HCL Informix® can be extended to handle specialized data types, access methods, routines, and other objects. Informix® includes many built-in extensions that are fully integrated in the database server. Informix® also provides DataBlade® modules, which are packages of extended database objects for a particular purpose and that are installed separately from the database server. Alternatively, you can create your own user-defined objects for Informix®.
Creating extensionsYou can create user-defined data types, routines, access methods, and other database objects to suit your needs. You can use application programming interfaces to write user-defined routines and applications that access data in Informix® databases.
DataBlade® Developers KitThe DataBlade® Developers Kit (DBDK) guides contain information about the tools you can use to develop and package DataBlade® modules, which extend the functionality of HCL Informix® databases.

Programming DataBlade® module routines in CThis section contains information to help you edit and compile C language source code generated by DataBlade®.
Source files generated by BladeSmithWhen you create objects, BladeSmith generates the source files; some file names are prefixed with the name of the DataBlade® module (indicated by project). By default, BladeSmith creates the source files in the src and src\c subdirectories of the directory that contains the BladeSmith project file.

Warning file

The warning.txt file includes the following types of warnings about your source code:


Warning type	Description
Unfinished code	The file lists the routines to which you need to add code.
User-defined statistics	If you included statistics-support functions for an opaque data type, a warning states that user-defined statistics are only available for HCL Informix® Version 9.2 and later.
Long identifiers	If you created any objects with long identifiers, a warning states that long identifiers are only available for HCL Informix Version 9.2 and later.
The mi_selfuncarg data type	If you included the mi_selfuncarg data type in an extended data type, a warning states that the data type is deprecated for HCL Informix Version 9.2 and later.

The warning.txt file might contain other warnings, as appropriate for your source code.
