Extending Informix®Beyond standard relational database objects, HCL Informix® can be extended to handle specialized data types, access methods, routines, and other objects. Informix® includes many built-in extensions that are fully integrated in the database server. Informix® also provides DataBlade® modules, which are packages of extended database objects for a particular purpose and that are installed separately from the database server. Alternatively, you can create your own user-defined objects for Informix®.

Define errorsDataBlade® module routines can print error messages and trace messages. Error messages are printed with the mi_db_error_raise() function. Trace messages are written to a trace file with the DBDK_TRACE macros or the gl_dprintf() macro.
Error localeThe error locale enables the database server to select a translated error or trace message for a localized database. The locale is specified by using the format language_country.codeset. Be sure to create messages for all of the locales in which your DataBlade® module executes.

The default BladeSmith locale, en_us.8859-1, is for US English using code set 8859. This is the default locale for the HCL Informix® database server on UNIX™ operating systems.

The default code set for the HCL Informix database server on Windows™ is 1252. Create US English messages by using locale en_us.1252 for Windows database servers.
