Using a central directory architecture in a Domino® domain
A central directory architecture is an optional directory architecture you can implement in an HCL Domino® domain. This architecture differs from the traditional distributed directory architecture in which every server in a domain has a full replica of the primary Domino Directory.
Managing Domino® Directories in a central directory architecture
When there is a combination of Configuration Directories and primary HCL Domino® Directories in a domain, you can manage the central directory architecture by changing directory type and by performing tasks to manage which directories serve as remote primary directories.

The Directory Servers view in the HCL Domino® Directory lists the primary Domino Directories in the domain that have the option Allow this directory to be used as a remote primary directory for other servers enabled on the Basics tab of their server documents.

When you set up the first server in an organization, Domino creates a Domino domain and a Domino Directory for the domain. When you add servers to the domain they pull replicas of the Domino Directory. To create an additional domain and Domino Directory, you perform a first server setup.

About this task

The Central Directories view sorts the primary Domino® Directory replicas by server name.

Procedure

From the Domino® Administrator, in the Server pane, select any server in the domain. If you don't see the server pane, click the Servers icon.
Click the Files tab and open the Domino® Directory.
Select the Servers - Directory Servers view.
