Using a central directory architecture in a Domino® domain
A central directory architecture is an optional directory architecture you can implement in an HCL Domino® domain. This architecture differs from the traditional distributed directory architecture in which every server in a domain has a full replica of the primary Domino Directory.

When there is a combination of Configuration Directories and primary HCL Domino® Directories in a domain, you can manage the central directory architecture by changing directory type and by performing tasks to manage which directories serve as remote primary directories.

When you set up the first server in an organization, Domino creates a Domino domain and a Domino Directory for the domain. Preventing the use of a Domino® Directory replica as a remote primary

You can prevent servers with configuration directories from using a specific replica of the HCL Domino® Directory as a remote primary.

About this task

You can prevent a replica from being used only when servers with configuration directories use the default logic, and not directory assistance, to locate a remote primary Domino® Directory. You might prevent the use of a specific replica to avoid the use of a server that has limited capacity.

Procedure

From the Domino® Administrator, select the server that stores the primary Domino® Directory.
Select the Configuration tab, and select Server > Current Server Document.
Click Edit Server.
On the Basics tab, in the Directory Information section for the directory type, deselect Allow this directory to be used as a remote primary directory for other servers.
Click Save & Close.
