Configuring iNotes®
HCL iNotes® provides HCL Notes® users with browser-based access to Notes mail and to Notes calendar and scheduling features. Administrators specify mail policy and security policy settings as well as notes.ini file settings to complete the full implementation of HCL iNotes.
Integrating with other applications
HCL iNotes® can be integrated with HCL Sametime® and HCL Connections™.
Setting up iNotes® with Sametime®
HCL iNotes® integrates an instant messaging (IM) capability so that users can chat with others online and maintain an instant messaging list that shows the online status of others.
Setting up Sametime® and iNotes® in different domains
You can set up a cross-domain configuration when the HCL Sametime® server and the HCL iNotes® server are located in different domains.

Therefore, you should edit the NOTES.INI file only if special circumstances occur or if Support recommends that you do so.

        Using iNotes® with Sametime® and the Sametime® proxy server
        The HCL Domino® 9.0 release requires at least HCL Sametime® Proxy server version 8.5.2 IFR1.
        Troubleshooting Sametime® in iNotes®
        If instant messaging icons do not display in HCL iNotes® mail and the contact list, you look for causes.
      - Integrating Connections files with iNotes®
        You can make file sharing easier for HCL iNotes® users by specifying mail policy settings that save network resources and improve efficiency by integrating iNotes with HCL Connections™ files. As an alternative to sending attachments, users can insert links to files that have been uploaded to Connections. Where possible, the files that are being linked to are shared with the recipients at send time. Users can upload received attachments to Connections Files and then remove the attachment from the email and replace it with a link to the newly uploaded file to save space it their mail file. Connections 3.6 and more recent versions are supported for integration with iNotes.
      - Integrating iNotes® with HCL Connections™ Docs
        Provide HCL iNotes® users the ability to view documents with HCL Connections™ Docs. You can allow users to view all supported document file types or you can specify which of the supported file types users are allowed to view with HCL Connections™ Docs.

      Once HCL iNotes® has been installed and configured, you can customize your implementation in the following ways:
  - Configuring Web servers
    This section describes how to set up the HCL Domino® Web server, and the Domino Web Navigator.

Setting up Sametime® and iNotes® in different domains

You can set up a cross-domain configuration when the HCL Sametime® server and the HCL iNotes® server are located in different domains.

Procedure

Cross certify both domains with each other. This step is necessary only if the Sametime® server uses HCL Domino® authentication instead of LDAP.
Configure directory assistance on the Sametime® server as needed:
- If Sametime® uses native Domino® authentication, then directory assistance must point to the iNotes® server, using the HCL Notes® protocol instead of LDAP.
- If Sametime® was installed to use LDAP, then directory assistance is configured automatically, and nothing further is necessary.
If you have set up single sign on (SSO), go to Step 4. If you do not have SSO set up, replicate STAuthS.nsf to the iNotes® server. The file name is case sensitive on Unix servers.
Create a server document for the Sametime® server in the Domino® Directory of the iNotes® server, completing the following fields:
- Server name
- Domain name
- Fully qualified Internet host name
- Is this a Sametime® server?
Enter the Sametime® server name in the Sametime Server field of each iNotes® user's Person document.
Note: You can specify the Sametime® server name in the server configuration document to globally set the Sametime® server for all users. Use the Set an HCL Sametime Server host name for all HCL iNotes users (useful for clustered configurations) field.
