Configuring iNotes®
HCL iNotes® provides HCL Notes® users with browser-based access to Notes mail and to Notes calendar and scheduling features. Administrators specify mail policy and security policy settings as well as notes.ini file settings to complete the full implementation of HCL iNotes.

    You should rarely, if ever, need to modify a server's or client's NOTES.INI file. The NOTES.INI file contains many settings that Domino® and Notes® rely on to work properly. An accidental or incorrect change may cause Domino or Notes to run unpredictably. Therefore, you should edit the NOTES.INI file only if special circumstances occur or if Support recommends that you do so.

      After installing and configuring HCL Notes® and enabling HCL iNotes®, perform these tasks to enable users to get up and running with iNotes.
      - Installing and setting up iNotes®
        When you install the HCL Domino® server, all the infrastructure is put in place for HCL iNotes®. During the server setup process of the Domino server installation process, be sure to choose Web Browsers (HTTP Web services) to enable iNotes features and functionality and register users with the Mail template.
      - Setting up iNotes® on a server
        HCL iNotes® provides HCL Notes® users with browser-based access to Notes mail, as well as Notes calendar and scheduling features. Using iNotes, a user can send and receive mail, view the calendar, invite people to meetings, create to do lists, keep a notebook, and work off line.
      - Registering iNotes® users
        When registering HCL iNotes® users, select iNotes for your mail system, and the mail9.ntf mail template. This template contains mail template support for both the iNotes client and the HCL Notes® client.
      - Providing a log-on URL for iNotes® users
        After registering your new HCL iNotes® users, you need to provide them with information they need to access their mail files.

      - Using an HTTP-proxy servlet to restrict URLs to external servers
        For HCL iNotes® features that send requests either to external servers for external calendar overlays, you must configure an HTTP-proxy servlet to intercept calls and retrieve information from a remote site.

        To resolve the issue of multiple login requests, create realm documents to map access from other paths to the root path.
      - Using iNotes® Redirect to access mail in iNotes®
        HCL iNotes® users can access their mail files using iNotes Redirect. With iNotes Redirect, users do not need to know the name of their mail file and mail server, they need only know the name of the iNotes Redirect server. iNotes Redirect uses HCL Domino® authentication methods to redirect a user's browser to their mail file based on their user name and password.
      - Setting up archiving using policies and configuration settings
        You can use configuration settings or policy settings, or a combination of both to set up archiving for HCL iNotes®. You can determine how and where users can archive, and whether archive preferences are available to users in the iNotes client.
      - Creating a URL for an iNotes® portal
        You can provide a Web portal that shows one or several views of HCL iNotes®.
      - Allowing pass-through of HTML
        In HCL iNotes®, pass-through HTML enclosed within brackets is disabled by default. To allow this pass-through HTML style, use the notes.ini file setting iNotes_WA_AllowPassThruHtml=1. The default value is 0.
    - Creating mail policy settings for iNotes® users
      HCL Domino® administrators can use a number of mail policy settings.
    - Creating security policy settings for iNotes® users
      To create or enforce security settings for HCL iNotes® users, you must create a security policy settings document.
    - Desktop policy settings supported in iNotes®
      When applied to a user, these desktop policy settings lock down the associated user preferences in HCL iNotes®. Any existing policies previously assigned to iNotes users are enforced.
    - Editing the configuration settings document for iNotes®
      Many of the features you enable using the configuration settings document can also be configured using policies.
    - Renaming an iNotes® user
      You rename an HCL iNotes® user who has an iNotes ID and an HCL Notes® certified public key located in their person document in the Domino® Directory the same way you rename a Notes user.
    - Integrating with other applications
      HCL iNotes® can be integrated with HCL Sametime® and HCL Connections™.
    - Customizing iNotes®
      Once HCL iNotes® has been installed and configured, you can customize your implementation in the following ways:
