Creating a frameset

Procedure

  1. In the Applications Navigator, double-click Framesets.

  2. In the Framesets section, click New Frameset. The New Frameset dialog box appears.

  3. Specify a name for the frameset, along with an alias and comment as needed.
  4. If necessary, specify the application to which the new frameset will be added. By default, it is added to the current application.

  5. At the "Number of frames" drop-down box, select two, three, or four frames. You can make adjustments later.
  6. Next to Arrangement, click one of the arrangements for the frames.
  7. Click OK. The frameset with the chosen layout appears.
  8. Optional: Use the Frame action buttons, the Frame menu options, or keyboard keys to further refine your frameset. You can:
    • Save the frameset.
    • Split the selected frame vertically by choosing Split into Columns (SHIFT+INSERT key).
    • Split the selected frame horizontally by choosing Split into Rows (INSERT key).
    • Delete the selected frame by choosing Delete Frame (CTRL+DELETE key).
    • Refresh the content of the selected frame by choosing Refresh Content.
    • Remove the content of the selected frame by choosing Remove Frame Content (DELETE key).
    • Flip the frameset horizontally by choosing Flip Horizontally.
    • Cycle through frames by using the TAB key (SHIFT+TAB cycles backwards).
  9. Open the Frameset Properties box. At the Basics tab:
    • Name the frameset.
    • Provide an alias for the frameset. An alias is an internal name for the frameset. Use an alias to change or translate the frameset name without causing reference problems. The alias appears with the initial list of framesets in the Work pane.
    • Add a comment. The comment appears with the initial list of framesets in the Work pane.
    • Click "Available for public access" if you want to have the frameset available for public access.
    • Enter a title for the frameset in the Title field or use a formula to compute the frameset title by clicking Formula Window and entering the formula. The frameset title is the name that appears in the Windows tab when the frameset is launched.
  10. Add content to each frame by using the Frame Properties box.
  11. To move borders between frames, you can:
    • Drag borders with the mouse.
    • Use the Arrow keys to drag the border of a selected frame:
  12. To preview the frameset:
    • To preview the frameset on the Web, choose Frame - Preview in Web browser and choose a browser.
    • To look at the HTML source, view the source of the Web preview in the browser. You can also look at the HTML source by creating a design synopsis for the frameset. Make sure to check "Include JavaScript and HTML."
    • To preview the frameset in Notes®, you can launch the database into the frameset or choose Preview in Notes® from the Designer toolbar or Frame menu.

Using the View menu with framesets

About this task

When you are designing frames and framesets, the View menu contains the following commands:

  • Refresh all -- refreshes the content of each frame with changes you have made since opening the frameset.
  • Show Frame Content -- once you have populated the frames, you can use this menu option to view either the actual content of the frame or a short description of the frame content. For example, instead of an actual Web page appearing in a frame, the frame contains text such as:
    Content type: URL
    Content value: http://www.lotus.com/

Using framesets in composite applications (Composite Application InfoBox settings)

About this task

You can use framesets you have designed as design elements in composite applications. Do the following to use a frameset in a composite application:

Procedure

  1. Open Domino® Designer and double-click a frameset from your composite application.
  2. Select Frame - Frameset Properties. The Frameset Properties box appears. At the end of the box there is a Composite Application section.
  3. Select the name of the application that you wish to use from the App Name dropdown list. The entries in the dropdown list specify the available composite application .XML files that have been imported into the database.
  4. Once an App Name is selected in the App Name field, a list of the available pages in that composite application .XML becomes available in the dropdown list of the Page Name field. Select the page that you wish to use from the Page Name dropdown list.
  5. Close the Frameset Properties box when you have finished.

Results

Note: These settings are for handling framesets used by composite applications in the Notes® Standard client. Mail is an example of a composite application used in the Notes® Standard client. "Proxy" framesets are specified so that you can open "classic" framesets in Notes® Basic but composite applications also need a mechanism to specify framesets in the Notes® Standard client which uses the Java user interface. For example, there are many links to the MailFS (Mail frameset) to open mail. Notes® Basic needs to open the real MailFS. In Notes® Standard, however, you want to specify the Mail composite application to obtain the correct interface.
