Installing WebSphere Application Server

The IBM® WebSphere® Application Server installation consists of two parts: IBM Installation Manager and the WebSphere Application Server itself.

IBM Installation Manager

The IBM Installation Manager is used to assist in the installation of WebSphere Application Server and the corresponding fixpacks. You can go to IBM Installation Manager Knowledge Center for more details.

IBM WebSphere Application Server

Since the IBM Docs components are WebSphere-based applications, you must install WebSphere Application Server, create profiles and servers for each of these applications: Editor Application, Editor Proxy, Document Format Conversion Application, and Viewer Application.

You can go to the System Requirements page for the supported WAS versions information: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27036813. The required minimum version is WAS 8.5.5.4. Find out how to download and install WAS 8.5.5.4 and later fixes by referring to: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27038625. More details can be found in WebSphere Application Server Knowledge Center.
