Learn how to troubleshoot some common issues with HCL Launch.
- Troubleshooting process overview
  Troubleshooting is the process of finding and eliminating the cause of a problem. When you have a problem with HCL Launch, the troubleshooting process begins as soon as you ask yourself what happened.
- Logging
  The server maintains logs for auditing and troubleshooting.
  - Viewing logs
    You can view audit logs, diagnostic logs, and server output logs from the Settings > System page.

    You can add loggers to the root log and set their logging level to keep track of errors and some activities.

    With appropriate permissions, you can add, edit, enable, and delete the default logs.

    The Java heap is memory that contains objects used by Java programs. It contains objects that are currently in use, objects that are no longer needed, and free memory. Objects that are no longer needed are freed by the garbage collection process. The JVM heap size determines how often to run garbage collection and how long the garbage collection runs.

Configuring log rotation settings

You can configure the rotation and increase the size of the main log file.

About this task

Logs include time frames for when problems occur or activities happens on the HCL Launch server, agent, and relays. Because log files hold a limited amount of data, data related to a problems might be overwritten. To avoid this scenario, you can increase the size of the log file or the number of rotating files.

Procedure

To configure log rotation settings:

Go to the Configuration page.
Change one or both of the following settings:
- Files: The number of total logging files, which includes the active log file and the rotated log files. The default value is 10. Note that the value cannot be less than 1.
- File Size: The maximum size (in megabytes) of a log file. Once this size is reached, the active log file is rotated. The default value is 50. Note that the value cannot be less than 1.
Click Save.

Results

When you increase the number of log files, more disk space is required. An HCL Launch support specialist can help you determine the appropriate value to specify.
