  HCL Connections™ is a collaborative tool that makes it easy to connect with others and exchange ideas. Start sharing important information, building a network of useful contacts, and following people that interest you.

    Find out which application you should use, and learn what an external user can do with HCL Connections™
  - Setting preferences
    Update HCL Connections™ with your preferred email notification and language settings.
    - Getting email notifications
      Control how and when you receive email notifications by setting preferences on the Email Notifications tab. Enable or disable notification emails from other users, set the language that you want to receive notifications in, and specify what email address you want them sent to.
    - Giving apps access to your data
      Give apps access your IBM® Connections data and allow them to post data to IBM Connections.
    - Changing the display language
      Change the user interface language and configure bidirectional text so that HCL Connections™is displayed in your preferred language.

  Use activities to keep a team informed, collect and share project resources, or to assign and track tasks.
- Files
  Using the Files app, you can upload, organize, share and collaborate on files easily. Files can be shared, tagged, organized in folders, and accessed from other applications, such as Activities and Communities.
- Communities
  Get together with people who share your interests.
- Blogs
  Use blogs to share your announcements, updates, and opinions with others.
- Forums
  Share information, brainstorm ideas, ask and answer questions, and discuss topics of mutual interest in a forum.
- Wikis
  Tap the wisdom of the crowd by building a body of knowledge in a wiki. Everyone on your team can make a contribution.
- Bookmarks
  Use Bookmarks to collect and organize shortcuts to websites.

Giving apps access to your data

Give apps access your IBM® Connections data and allow them to post data to IBM® Connections.

Your administrator must register the apps that are allowed to ask for permission to use your data.

When you open a registered app, you can decide whether you want to give the app access to your data. If you give permission, the app can use your data or push data to IBM® Connections. Access is given to all content that you create in IBM® Connections. For example, the app can use your profile photograph and personal information, as well as your files, comments, bookmarks, and blog entries. It could also post information to your IBM® Connections home page status.

You can remove permissions from apps in IBM® Connections: Hover the cursor over your name on any page in IBM® Connections and select Settings from the menu that appears. Then, click the Application Access tab and, in the list of authorized apps, click Remove to remove permission.
