Migrating to IBM® Connections 6.0
Migrate an installation of HCL Connections™ 5.0 or 5.5 to Connections 6.0. For any version of Connections before version 5.0, you must migrate to version 5.0 before you migrate to version 6.0.

Migrate data from your HCL Connections™ 5.0 or 5.5 databases and update the schemas to the most recent IBM® Connections 6.0 level.

        Transfer SQL Server data from your IBM® Connections 5.0 or 5.5 databases to new 5.0 or 5.5 databases as part of migrating to version 6.0.
      - Migrating data in-place
        Prepare to update your HCL Connections™ 5.0 or 5.5 databases to version 6.0.
    - Uninstalling a deployment before migration
      If you migrate HCL Connections™ using the same hardware that you used for the previous release, known as an in-place migration, you must uninstall the earlier version of Connections before you migrate to the new release. You must also uninstall the Cognos® Business Intelligence server if it is installed. If you are migrating to Connections 6.0 side-by-side with your current deployment, you do not need to complete this task.
    - Before installing
      Verify that all necessary prerequisite conditions are complete before installing IBM® Connections.
    - Installing HCL Connections 6
      Install HCL Connections.
    - Importing application artifacts to IBM® Connections 6.0
      Import application artifacts, including configuration data and properties files, into your new deployment.
    - Migrating Cognos® Business Intelligence
      Use a new content store to migrate Cognos® Business Intelligence for HCL Connections™ from 5.0 or 5.5 to 6.0.
    - Restoring FileNet® components after migrating to IBM® Connections 6.0
      After you migrate to HCL Connections™ 6.0 CR1, update Connections Content Manager and then restore your FileNet® components.
    - Post-migration tasks
      After you migrate to HCL Connections™ 6.0, perform post-migration tasks to ensure that your new deployment is complete.
    - Rolling back a migration
      If a migration fails, you can roll back your environment to the previous one.

    Updates to HCL Connections™ 6.0 are delivered as interim fixes or Cumulative Refreshes.

Migrating data side-by-side

Migrate Connections 5.0 or 5.5 data in a side-by-side procedure to keep your data intact and available while you set up a separate IBM® Connections 6.0 deployment.

Before you begin

Notes:

Before removing (or dropping) a database, stop Connections first to ensure that no database connection is in use; otherwise you will not drop the user and the database removal will not occur.
If you run dbWizard.bat but the database wizard does not launch, check whether you have 32-bit DB2 installed. You need to have 64-bit DB2 on a 64-bit system.

About this task

Follow these general steps to complete a side-by-side data migration:

Note: An alternative to the side-by-side instructions provided here is to use import/export or backup/restore tools specific to your database to create a copy of the database for a side-by-side update.

Create Connections 5.0 or 5.5 databases and run the 5.0 or 5.5 database wizard to update them with the latest Connections 5.0 or 5.5 database updates.
Transfer your production data to the new Connections 5.0 or 5.5 databases.
Update the new databases to the Connections 6.0 level as you would do for an in-place migration. You can either use the Connections 6.0 database wizard or use SQL scripts.
