Migrating to IBM® Connections 6.0
Migrate an installation of HCL Connections™ 5.0 or 5.5 to Connections 6.0. For any version of Connections before version 5.0, you must migrate to version 5.0 before you migrate to version 6.0.
Migrating data from IBM® Connections 5.0 or 5.5 databases to 6.0
Migrate data from your HCL Connections™ 5.0 or 5.5 databases and update the schemas to the most recent IBM® Connections 6.0 level.

        Prepare to update your HCL Connections™ 5.0 or 5.5 databases to version 6.0.
    - Uninstalling a deployment before migration
      If you migrate HCL Connections™ using the same hardware that you used for the previous release, known as an in-place migration, you must uninstall the earlier version of Connections before you migrate to the new release. You must also uninstall the Cognos® Business Intelligence server if it is installed. If you are migrating to Connections 6.0 side-by-side with your current deployment, you do not need to complete this task.
    - Before installing
      Verify that all necessary prerequisite conditions are complete before installing IBM® Connections.

      Install HCL Connections.
    - Importing application artifacts to IBM® Connections 6.0
      Import application artifacts, including configuration data and properties files, into your new deployment.
    - Migrating Cognos® Business Intelligence
      Use a new content store to migrate Cognos® Business Intelligence for HCL Connections™ from 5.0 or 5.5 to 6.0.
    - Restoring FileNet® components after migrating to IBM® Connections 6.0
      After you migrate to HCL Connections™ 6.0 CR1, update Connections Content Manager and then restore your FileNet® components.
    - Post-migration tasks
      After you migrate to HCL Connections™ 6.0, perform post-migration tasks to ensure that your new deployment is complete.

Migrating data from IBM® Connections 5.0 or 5.5 databases to 6.0

Migrate data from your HCL Connections™ 5.0 or 5.5 databases and update the schemas to the most recent IBM® Connections 6.0 level.

Note: If your version of Connections is earlier than version 5.0, you must first migrate to version 5.0 and then migrate to version 6.0. Also, make sure that you use the appropriate wizard and check for applicable technical notes to see if there are patches required.

To migrate your data, you can choose from two different strategies:

Side-by-side: Create new 5.0 or 5.5 databases on a separate system, update them to the most recent 5.5 level, and transfer your existing 5.0 or 5.5 data to that system. Then update the new databases to version 6.0. This strategy requires more time and resources than an in-place migration but means that you can test the update while you continue to use your older databases. For more information, refer to Migrating data side-by-side.
In-place: Instead of migrating your 5.0 or 5.5 data, update the databases to the most recent 6.0 level on the same system as the earlier version. This strategy saves time and hardware resources. For more information, refer to Migrating 5.0 or 5.5 data in-place.

Note: You can update databases with the IBM® Connections database wizard or with the SQL scripts and Java™ migration utility that are provided with the product.
