Migrating and updating
Migrate IBM® Connections and its supporting software to the latest release and then update the installation with the latest interim fixes or Cumulative Refresh (CR).
Migrating to IBM® Connections 6.0
Migrate an installation of HCL Connections™ 5.0 or 5.5 to Connections 6.0. For any version of Connections before version 5.0, you must migrate to version 5.0 before you migrate to version 6.0.
Post-migration tasks
After you migrate to HCL Connections™ 6.0, perform post-migration tasks to ensure that your new deployment is complete.
Checking Touchpoint migration
If you have Touchpoint installed you need to carry out some checks after migrating to IBM® Connections 6.0.

      Export application artifacts, such as configuration data, from your HCL Connections™ 5.0 or 5.5 deployment.
    - Migrating data from IBM® Connections 5.0 or 5.5 databases to 6.0
      Migrate data from your HCL Connections™ 5.0 or 5.5 databases and update the schemas to the most recent IBM® Connections 6.0 level.
    - Uninstalling a deployment before migration
      If you migrate HCL Connections™ using the same hardware that you used for the previous release, known as an in-place migration, you must uninstall the earlier version of Connections before you migrate to the new release. You must also uninstall the Cognos® Business Intelligence server if it is installed. If you are migrating to Connections 6.0 side-by-side with your current deployment, you do not need to complete this task.
    - Before installing
      Verify that all necessary prerequisite conditions are complete before installing IBM® Connections.
    - Installing HCL Connections 6
      Install HCL Connections.
    - Importing application artifacts to IBM® Connections 6.0
      Import application artifacts, including configuration data and properties files, into your new deployment.
    - Migrating Cognos® Business Intelligence
      Use a new content store to migrate Cognos® Business Intelligence for HCL Connections™ from 5.0 or 5.5 to 6.0.
    - Restoring FileNet® components after migrating to IBM® Connections 6.0
      After you migrate to HCL Connections™ 6.0 CR1, update Connections Content Manager and then restore your FileNet® components.
    - Post-migration tasks
      After you migrate to HCL Connections™ 6.0, perform post-migration tasks to ensure that your new deployment is complete.
      - Recreating the Search index after migrating to IBM Connections 6.0
        When you update or migrate HCL Connections™ from a previous release, you might need to rebuild the search index.
      - Migrating the search index from the IBM® Connections 5.0 or 5.5 deployment to IBM® Connections 6.0
        When you upgrade an HCL Connections™ 5.0 or 5.5 to 6.0, the index structure is the same in both releases and the index can be migrated. This means you do not need to rebuild the search index.
      - Migrating type ahead search from IBM® Connections 5.5 to IBM® Connections 6.0
        When you upgrade HCL Connections™ 5.5 to 6.0, solr must be updated with the new schema.xml.
      - Migrating Community Surveys
        Migrate Community Surveys to HCL Connections™.
      - Synchronizing files shared with communities
        After upgrading, you must synchronize files that have been shared with communities.
      - Changing the emoticons URL for Blogs, Wikis, and other apps
        When you migrate IBM® Connections from 5.0 to 6.0, you must change the emoticons URL for Blogs, Wikis, and other apps.
      - Post-migration steps for profile types and profile policies
        In migrating to this release, there are significant changes to Profiles configuration that should be validated. In prior releases, the layout of the profile and the underlying data model were defined in the profiles-config.xml file. In this release, the data model for profile-type definitions has been moved into a dedicated profiles-types.xml file and the rules for presentation of a profile have been moved into a set of FreeMarker template files.
      - Checking Touchpoint migration
        If you have Touchpoint installed you need to carry out some checks after migrating to IBM® Connections 6.0.
      - Restricting external access to your servers
        Update the CRE Proxy policy in IBM Connections™ to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks by limiting where requests from widgets can flow.
    - Rolling back a migration
      If a migration fails, you can roll back your environment to the previous one.
  - Updating IBM® Connections 6.0
    Updates to HCL Connections™ 6.0 are delivered as interim fixes or Cumulative Refreshes.
  - Synchronizing nodes
    Synchronize all the nodes in a cluster.

Checking Touchpoint migration

If you have Touchpoint installed you need to carry out some checks after migrating to IBM® Connections 6.0.

Carry out the following checks to make sure your Touchpoint implementation has migrated correctly to 6.0:

Check that migration did not remove Touchpoint modifications to your HCL Connections™ configuration. Modifications might include theme changes, new attributes and so on.
If you performed an in-place migration, you must uninstall the Touchpoint EAR and then update it after the Connections migration. For more information see Optional: Installing Connections Touchpoint.
