Round-trip e-mail

Your team can use e-mail notification with e-mail submission to update records. This process is called round-trip e-mail.

To use round-trip e-mail, you must specify the same e-mail address when you configure the E-mail Reader that you specify for the From Address on the Display Fields tab of the Submit e-mail Rule window. See Creating e-mail rules and Configuring the E-mail Reader.

The following example shows how you can use round-trip e-mail:

  1. A user submits a record by e-mail, using the required message format. The defect ID number PROD0000137 is assigned to this request.
  2. An e-mail rule that you established sends a message that notifies the lead engineer of this defect. (See Creating e-mail rules.)
  3. The lead engineer receives the e-mail message with the subject line "PROD0000137" and replies, including remarks in the description field.
  4. The E-mail Reader processes the message and submits the modified record to the HCL Compass database.
