Getting started with HCL Compass on HCL SoFy

Learn how to install, configure, and launch the HCL Compass Helm chart in your own Kubernetes environment on HCL SoFy.

Before you begin

In order to use HCL Compass on HCL SoFy, you must have the following:
  • Access to HCL SoFy. If you don't have access to HCL SoFy, contact your HCL sales representative for the login details required to access HCL SoFy, or you may request access to HCL SoFy.
  • You must setup your SoFy environment by installing Kubernetes and Helm. For more information about how to get started with Kubernetes and Helm, see Getting started with Kubernetes and Getting Started with Helm.
  • You must have an account in Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You can create a trial account with a valid credit card.
  • You must have the details of the HCL Flexnet license server that contains your entitlements to run HCL Compass.

About this task

This quick start guide shows you how ot use HCL SoFy to create an HCL Compass solution, use the SoFy sandbox to preview your solution, and download the solution package.

Procedure

  1. Explore the HCL Compass catalog.
    1. Login to HCL SoFy.
    2. Select DISCOVER NOW or select Catalog on the header menu.
    3. Find the HCL Compass catalog from the Catalog page.
    4. Click on the HCL Compass catalog to view the HCL Compass catalog detail page. The catalog detail page includes important information and documentation for using the HCL Compass product.
  2. Create a solution.
    1. Select the HCL Compass catalog and click ADD TO SOLUTION.
    2. The Solution Panel pops up on the bottom of the page. Give your solution a name, version, and description and click CREATE. You can now expand the Solution Panel for a more detailed view where you can select or deselect HCL SoFy common services.
    3. After your solution has been created, you are taken to the Solution detail page, where you can view the contents of your solution and download the HCL Compass helm chart in .tgz file format.
    4. To deploy your solution in the sandbox, click on DEPLOY in the drop down list at the top right corner of the solution detail page. Select PREVIEW IN SANDBOX.
    5. After your solution has been deployed, you can view your solution in the Solution Console. Click VIEW SOLUTION CONSOLE. The default login for the Solution Console is:
      username: sol-admin
      password: pass
  3. Release your solution to the cloud.
    1. Download the HCL Compass solution package .tgz file that you created in Step 2. Click on DEPLOY in the drop down list at the top right corner of the solution detail page. Select Deploy Locally (download).
    2. Install the solution in the Supported Kubernetes Environment.

What to do next

After downloading your solution from HCL SoFy, you can install the solution into a supported Kuberenetes environment, such as the Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). For more information, see Deploying HCL Compass on Google Kubernetes Engine.
