Searching for updates
Information about using the preferences Search service repositories during installation and updates and Search for Installation Manager updates together.
The preferences Search service repositories during installation and updates and Search for Installation Manager updates determine if Installation Manager searches for updates to installed products, including itself.
Search service repositories during installation and updates checks the service repositories for updates for installed products. Search for Installation Manager updates checks for available updates to Installation Manager. An update is available if it can be found by Installation Manager. Installation Manager finds updates either in the service repositories or in the repositories listed in the repository table.

Installation Manager searches
for updates in both the service repositories and the repositories
listed in the repository table or the response file. The repository
table is available in Installation Manager. The response
file is used with silent installs. Installation Manager looks
for available updates to itself. When using the Installation Manager GUI, if updates for installed products are found in either the service repositories or in the repositories listed in the repository table, the updates display in the Install, Modify, or Update windows. Also in the Installation Manager GUI, if updates to Installation Manager are found, you receive a confirmation window to update Installation Manager to a later version when you click Install, Modify or Update. |

Installation Manager searches
for updates in both the service repositories and the repositories
listed in the repository table or the response file. The repository

file is used with silent installs. Installation Manager does not

When using the Installation Manager GUI, if updates are found in either the service repositories or in the repositories listed in the repository table, the updates display in the Install, Modify, or Update windows. When using the Installation Manager GUI, if an update exists for the installed Installation Manager then this update remains available. The update is found in the service repositories but the update is not listed as an option in the Install, Modify, or Update windows. The update is not installed. If you then check the Search for Installation Manager updates preference, the available Installation Manager update displays in the Install, Modify, or Update windows. |

Installation Manager does not access
the service repositories for updates. Installation Manager
does look for available updates to itself. When using the Installation Manager GUI, Installation Manager searches the repositories listed in the repository table for updates. Updates that you download and add to the repository table are displayed in the Update window. If updates to Installation Managerare found, you receive a confirmation window to update Installation Manager to a later version when you click Install, Modify or Update. Installation Manager does not access
the service repositories for updates. Installation Manager
does search the repositories listed in the repository table for updates. Installation Manager does not look for available updates to itself.
In the Installation Manager GUI, you do not see an update for Installation Manager even if you download an update for Installation Manager, extract the update file to create the repository, add the repository to the repository table, and then click Update. You might receive a message indicating that no updates are found for Installation Manager. For silent installs, Installation Manager searches the repositories listed in response file for updates but does not look for available updates to itself. |
