WebSphere Commerce search
WebSphere Commerce search provides enhanced search functionality in starter stores by enabling enriched search engine capabilities such as automatic search term suggestions and spelling correction, while influencing store search results by using search term associations, and search-based merchandising rules.

WebSphere Commerce search includes several key services and interaction areas, including the search interface, programming model, and its interactions with other WebSphere Commerce components.
Search term association handling
Search term associations are used to suggest more, different, or replacement products in search results. Search term associations can also link search terms to a selected landing page in the store. Business users create and manage search term associations in the Management Center by using the Catalogs tool.

Introduced in Feature Pack 2 Search term associations are handled using the GetSearchTermAssociation service to evaluate synonyms and replacements. For example, if the synonyms of a keyword are used in a search rule, the Marketing services only interact with the GetSearchTermAssociation service to get the synonyms. Introduced in Feature Pack 3 Search term associations are handled by using WebSphere Commerce web services. The SearchTermAssociation noun defines types related to a search term association, and the service data object (SDO) is com.ibm.commerce.search.facade.datatypes.SearchTermAssociationType.
