Upgrading Discover Software on a Server
This section describes how to upgrade Discover software on an individual server. You must repeat this basic process on each Windows-based Discover server in the environment and make adjustments to the process as needed.
How to begin
The way to begin the upgrade depends on whether you are performing an upgrade of all components that currently exist on the server and are not adding or removing any Discover components, or if you are changing the configuration of installed components on the server.

  As you prepare for an installation, you need to gather some items, review hardware and software requirements, and then you can perform the installation.

    The objective of the upgrade is to minimize downtime and data loss. The recommended approach is to suspend the processing components, letting data spool to disk while the Data Collector collects any unaggregated statistical data. The system can then be upgraded. When it is restarted, it will attempt to work off the spooled data until it catches up.

If you are performing an upgrade of all components that currently exist on the server and are not adding or removing any Discover components, then you can use the Discover upgrader. See Running the Discover Upgrader on a Server.
If you are changing the configuration of installed components on the server, you must perform an uninstall and a reinstall through the Discover installer. Extra steps might be required.

(Optional) Discover Silent Upgrade

If you want to upgrade your Discover databases or you want to perform a first-time installation of the Tracking service, you can use the Discover silent installer to automate the upgrade process.
