Use IBM Installation Manager to run a silent install of an HCL product. When you run a silent install, the Installation Manager interface is not available. Installation Manager uses a response file that contains commands required to install the product package.

        Recording a response file with Installation Manager
        You can create a response file by recording your actions in Installation Manager. When you record a response file, the selections that you make in Installation Manager are stored in an XML file. When you run Installation Manager in silent mode, Installation Manager uses the data in the XML response file to install packages.

Creating a response file manually

To use the silent installation capabilities of Installation Manager, you create a response file that contains all the commands that Installation Manager runs.

Typically, you create a response file by recording your actions as you install a package. However, you can also create or edit a response file manually.

Response files contain two categories of commands:

Silent installation preference keys set preferences for Installation Manager that you set by clicking File > Preferences....
Response file commands emulate the actions of installation, update, modify, and uninstall wizards in Installation Manager.
