Identifying links in reports

Deliver describes link tracking results in the Detailed Link and Detailed Link by Cell reports. The reports use specific HTML link attributes to distinguish each link in the message. The attribute that the reports use depends on whether the link displays as text or an image, and whether the link attributes are unique. To identify links in reports, ensure that the attributes that the reports use to distinguish links are unique for each link in the message.

About this task

By default, Deliver reports distinguish links in messages as follows.

  • For text links, reports identify links according to the body text that is defined for each link.
  • For image links, reports identify links according to the ALT text that is defined for the link.
  • If multiple links define identical body text or ALT text, the report identifies the first duplicate link according to the body or ALT text. The report identifies the remaining duplicate links according to the Title attribute that is defined for each link.

If links do not define body, ALT, or Title attributes, the report displays the link URL to distinguish each link.

To clearly identify message links in the link reports, adopt the following practices when you add links, or HTML snippets that contain links, to messages and landing pages.

Procedure

  • Define unique body text for each text link. For image links, define unique ALT text for each link in the message.
  • Configure a Title for each link in the message. The title of each link must be unique within the message. If the marketing objective demands that some links use identical body or ALT text, then defining a unique title ensures that reports can still distinguish each link in the message.
