This section provides information on administering on Sametime environments.
Managing policies
Sametime policies allows administrators to control user access to features.
Mobile client policies
While many user policies are available in the Sametime ecosystem, only a subset of these policies apply to the mobile clients. This section describes the policies and configurations available to the said clients.
File transfer policies
Sametime allows users to download files through links in the chat. Mobile support has also been added for this new functionality.

By default, you can send files to other users and subsequently download the shared files. Edit the following policies to fit your business needs.

        General policies apply to all client settings. Edit the following policies to fit your business needs.
        Mobile file transfer policies
        By default, you can send files to other users and subsequently download the shared files. Edit the following policies to fit your business needs.
      - Security policies
        Every internet service that you use or provide poses risks to your system and the network to which it is connected. Your security policy defines what you protect. This section describes the security policies and configurations available to you.
    - Changing a user policy’s weight
      Each Sametime policy has a weight assigned to it. The weight should be unique. When assigning a weight to a policy, please ensure the weight is unique on each policy and not duplicated.
    - Assigning users and groups to policies
      Policies can be assigned to users or groups. Policy configuration is done inside the policies.user.xml file.
    - Allowing or restricting custom policies for Sametime clients
      Optionally allow or restrict features for clients by creating exception rules for the policy service in the policyExceptions.xml file.

    Configuration files are used to maintain information used by the Sametime server for various reasons. In Sametime v12, configuration files are generated on demand based on information in the container management configuration file based on the whether you are using Docker or Kubernetes.
  - Enabling multi-tenancy
    Multi-tenancy allows multiple organizations to be part of the Sametime community. With multi-tenancy, Sametime users can chat, add users and groups to contact lists, and have awareness of users in their organization or in other organizations that are configured to be visible to them.

  - Managing Sametime Meetings
    This topic explains the features you can enable or disable for meetings. Currently, the settings that you can change are global settings that apply to the entire server. User policies cannot control the settings.

Mobile file transfer policies

By default, you can send files to other users and subsequently download the shared files. Edit the following policies to fit your business needs.

Policy id = im.mobile.allowSendFiles, Default Setting: ON

By default, you can upload files in a one-to-one chat. This policy only applies to the Choose from Files menu item in the chat window. Leave this setting on with Policy id = 1 to allow users to upload files in a one-to-one chat. Uploading files in a group chat will also require Policy id = im.allowTransferringFilesToNwayParticipants to be turned on.

Note: Sending photos from either the camera or the photos app is controlled with Policy id = im.mobile.allowSendImages which is discussed below.

Policy id = im.mobile.allowReceiveFiles, Default Setting: ON

By default, downloaded files on mobile devices are stored outside of Sametime. Turn this setting off if you don't want files to be stored outside of the application. This policy covers the following download types.

Files shared in a chat — Policy id = im.mobile.allowReceiveFiles must be turned on to allow files to be downloaded and subsequently saved outside of the application.
Meeting recordings—By default, you can stream the playback of a recording on Sametime. To allow the download and subsequent saving of a meeting recording. Policy id = im.mobile.allowReceiveFiles must be turned on.
Meeting reports—By default, reports can always be downloaded and viewed within Sametime. To allow reports to be saved outside of Sametime, Policy id = im.mobile.allowReceiveFiles must be turned on.

Policy id = im.mobile.allowSendImages, Default Setting: ON

This policy must be turned on to allow images from the device camera or photos app to be sent as inline images in a chat. It does not prevent image files such as PNG or JPG images from being sent through the Choose from Files menu.

Note: Starting with Sametime 12.0, mobile clients no longer consider Policy 2009 when sending inline images.

Policy id = im.mobile.allowShareChatImages, Default Setting: ON

By default, you can share images from the chat. Turn this setting off to restrict users from sharing images from the chat.
