    - Policy behaviors
      You can assign anonymous, default, or custom user policies to users or groups to allow or restrict access to certain HCL® Sametime®features. Sametime uses policy weights and group nesting levels to determine which policies take precedence.

      In previous versions of Sametime there was a graphical user interface available to configure policies. In Sametime 11, this is done inside the policies.user.xml file, which is located on the Community server in the Domino program directory.

      Sametime policies are configured in the policies.user.xml file.
    - Changing a user policy’s weight
      Each Sametime policy has a weight assigned to it. The weight should be unique. When assigning a weight to a policy, please ensure the weight is unique on each policy and not duplicated.

      Policies can be assigned to users or groups. Policy configuration is done inside the policies.user.xml file.

Disabling Persistent Chat policy

This section describes how users can configure policy to allow/disallow users to use the new persistent chat features.

About this task

Note: The persistent chat feature is required (must be enabled) for the web client.

By default, the policy for persistent chat is enabled for both default and anonymous policies. Policies are configured in the policies.users.xml file. For more information on policies, see the topic Configuring Policies.

Procedure

Remote into the Sametime Community server.
Open the policies.users.xml file located in the Domino program directory and place in edit mode.
Modify the ‘current-value’ of im.persistentChatEnabled and change from "1" to “0” (for false).
Save and Close the file.
As a best practice it is recommended to test the policies.users.xml file using a browser to ensure formatting is correct.

Sametime Policies refresh once per hour. If the changes are needed sooner, restart the Community Server for the change to take effect.
