Configuring and running Rational Functional Tester adapter for Rational Quality Manager

You can integrate Rational® Functional Tester with Rational® Quality Manager by using an adapter. The adapter is available in the Rational Functional Tester installation directory. You can run the tests that you create by using Rational Functional Tester in Rational® Quality Manager after you configure and start the adapter.

Before you begin

  • If you are a Rational® Quality Manager user, you must have appropriate permissions to use the Rational® Functional Tester adapter for Rational® Quality Manager.
  • You must have a Connector client access license or a license that supersedes the Connector client access license. For more information, refer to Client access license management in the Engineering Lifecycle Management Solution knowledge center.
  • You must have modified the hosts file and map the host name of the Rational® Quality Manager server to its IP address if the host name of your Rational® Quality Manager server is not registered with the DNS server.
    Important: You must configure and start the adapter through the command-line interface to connect the adapter to the Rational Quality Manager server through a proxy server. For information, see Related Links.

Procedure

  1. Complete the following steps based on the operating system:
    • For Windows operating systems, navigate and click configureadapter.bat from the directory path FunctionalTester > RQMAdapter in the Rational Functional Tester installation directory.
    • For Linux operating systems, navigate to the directory path FunctionalTester > RQMAdapter in the Rational Functional Tester installation directory from the terminal, and then run the following command:
      ./configureadapter

    The IBM Rational Functional Tester Adapter dialog box is displayed.

  2. Complete the following steps from the Connection Information tab:
    1. Enter the server URL of Rational® Quality Manager in the Server URL field.
      Note: The URL that you enter in the Server URL field must match with the public URI of the Rational® Quality Manager server. You can view the public URI on the administrator page of the Rational® Quality Manager server.
    2. Select the mode that you want to use to authenticate the connection with the Rational® Quality Manager server from the Authentication Type drop-down list.
      You can select any of the options in the following table, and then complete the steps for that option:
      Option Description
      Username and Password

      You can establish the connection with the Rational® Quality Manager server by using the user ID and password.

      Complete the following actions:
      Field Action
      User ID Enter the user ID that you use to log in to Rational® Quality Manager
      Password Enter the password that you use to log in to Rational® Quality Manager.
      Project area
      Select the required project area in the Rational® Quality Manager server from the drop-down list.
      Note: This field is populated with the project names that are on the Rational® Quality Manager server and the project names are displayed after the connection is established.
      Important: You must select the project from the drop-down list and not type the project name.
      Save password Select this option to save your Rational® Quality Manager password.
      KERBEROS

      You can establish the connection with the Rational® Quality Manager server by using the Kerberos initialization file (krb5.ini).

      Complete the following actions:
      Field Action
      Configuration File Click Browse and select the krb5.ini file.
      Project area
      Select the required project area in the Rational® Quality Manager server from the drop-down list.
      Note: This field is populated with the project names that are on the Rational® Quality Manager server and the project names are displayed after the connection is established.
      Important: You must select the project from the drop-down list and not type the project name.
      Save password Select this option to save your Rational® Quality Manager password.
      SSLCERT

      You can establish the connection with the Rational® Quality Manager server by using an SSL certificate.

      Complete the following actions:
      Field Action
      Certificate Location Click Browse and select the SSL certificate.
      Note: The certificate must be a .p12 file.
      Password Enter the password that you use to log in to Rational® Quality Manager.
      Project area
      Select the required project area in the Rational® Quality Manager server from the drop-down list.
      Note: This field is populated with the project names that are on the Rational® Quality Manager server and the project names are displayed after the connection is established.
      Important: You must select the project from the drop-down list and not type the project name.
      SMARTCARD

      You can establish the connection with the Rational® Quality Manager server by using a smart card.

      Notes:
      • Smart card authentication is only available in Windows operating systems.
      • The computer must be connected to the smart card reader before you select this option. You must also insert the smart card into the smart card reader. Rational® Functional Tester reads the aliases from the smart card and prompts for the smart card PIN when the adapter connects to Rational® Quality Manager.
      Complete the following actions:
      Field Action
      Certificate Location Select the smart card certificate from the drop-down list.
      Project area
      Select the required project area in the Rational® Quality Manager server from the drop-down list.
      Note: This field is populated with the project names that are on the Rational® Quality Manager server and the project names are displayed after the connection is established.
      Important: You must select the project from the drop-down list and not type the project name.
    3. Enter the adapter name in the Adapter Name field.
    4. Click Apply.
  3. Click Start Adapter to start the connection between Rational® Functional Tester and Rational® Quality Manager.
    Note: You can view the status of the connection by clicking the Adapter Console tab. You can stop the connection by clicking Stop Adapter.
