Searching recorded events data

You can search recorded events data stored in HCL Quality Server. After retrieving the required data, you can view, edit, and delete it.

About this task

The Library page of HCL Quality Server is used for searching, viewing, editing, deleting, and sharing recorded events data captured in the Recording Studio perspective and exported from HCL OneTest API.

Note: The Library page of HCL Quality Server is available only in 8.5.1 or later.
Note: In HCL Quality Server, you can edit only the metadata that describes recorded events.

Procedure

  1. Log into HCL Quality Server

The HCL Quality Server application window is displayed.

  2. Click the Library icon or navigation link.

    The Library page is displayed.

The Library page comprises the following:
    • A search panel. You have the choice between an advanced (multiple criteria) search or a basic (quick find by label) search.
    • A data table. Each recording is displayed as a single row in the table. Some of the column titles displayed in the table refer to the metadata that can be associated with a recording when exporting it from HCL OneTest API to HCL Quality Server.
    • Pagination controls. These are displayed only if the number of rows in the data table exceeds 49.
  3. To run an advanced search:
    1. In the text box under the check boxes on the left side of the search panel, enter the required search query text.
    2. Select at least one of the Name, Descriptions, Labels, or Users check boxes as required to make your search query more precise.
    3. Optional: To further increase the preciseness of your search query, use the From and To fields to specify a date range.
The default display settings for dates are these:
      • The date displayed in the From field depends on the date of the oldest recording currently in the HCL Quality Server instance that you are using.
      • The date displayed in the To field depends on the system date of the computer that is hosting the HCL Quality Server instance that you are using.
To change these dates, click the field and use the date selection popup window.
    4. Click Search on the right of the search panel.
  4. To run a basic search:
    1. Click a label in the quick find search box.

The advanced search controls on the other side of the search panel become unavailable.

Note: To select multiple labels simultaneously, press CTRL before clicking the required labels.
    2. Click Any (the default) if you want to search for any recordings that have that label or any of those labels if you have selected multiple labels.

Alternatively, click All if you want to search only for recordings that have all of the labels selected.

    3. Click Search.
    4. Click Reset if you want to reset the search panel.
Note: Clicking Reset also reloads the data table.

Results

After retrieving the required recording or recordings, you can perform the following tasks:
  • You can view a recording by clicking the magnifying glass button (View recording icon) on the relevant row of the data table, which displays the View artifact metadata window.
  • You can modify the metadata of a recording by clicking the edit button on the relevant row of the data table, which displays the Modify artifact metadata window.
  • You can delete a recording by clicking the red X button (Delete recording icon) on the relevant row of the data table, which displays a confirmation prompt.
