Volt on Docker overview

HCL Domino Volt 1.0 includes a Docker-compatible Red Hat Universal Base Image (UBI) of Volt that is part of your entitlement and available for download through the HCL Licensing Portal. HCL Domino Volt 1.0 is pre-installed on this image – this allows you to deploy a Volt server as a container with just a few commands.

The volt-docker image includes HCL Domino 11.0.1 and is built from the domino-docker image (available separately as part of your Domino entitlement). Since volt-docker is built on domino-docker, the instructions for managing a containerized Volt server are very similar.

For more information, refer to the following pages in the HCL Domino 11.0.1 documentation:
Depending on your needs, there are two ways to deploy Volt on Docker:
  • Deploy a brand-new server with a new Domino data directory.

As with Domino on Docker, your Volt server may either be added to an existing domain, or it may be the first server in a new domain.

Use this option if you plan on deploying the Volt server in a production environment.

  • Deploy a server that uses a sample data directory.

Use this option if you are evaluating HCL Domino Volt and want to get started more quickly.

For both options, start by loading the volt-docker image into Docker. For more information, see Loading the volt-docker tar archive file to Docker.
