Deployment sequence for small and medium businesses

Small and medium businesses (SMBs) are generally defined as ones having 10,000 users or less and 50 Domino servers or less.

The following example provides typical steps to follow to deploy Domino in this type of environment. This is general guidance that you can vary based on your specific needs.

Procedure

  1. Upgrade the Domino Administrator clients that you use to administer Domino.
  2. Upgrade the Domino administration server for the Domino domain.
  3. Upgrade the Domino directory design on the administration server and allow it to replicate to the other server in the domain.
  4. Upgrade hub servers.
  5. Upgrade Resource and Reservations (R&R) servers.
  6. Upgrade Domino mail servers.
  7. Upgrade SMTP servers.
  8. Upgrade application and web servers.
  9. Upgrade third-party and companion product servers.
  10. If you use the Notes client, upgrade the general population to the new Notes version.
  11. Upgrade the design of mail files and Domino system applications to support the new features in the release.
  12. Upgrade the On-Disk Structure (ODS) to the latest format of ODS 55.
