  - The Domino® Administrator
    The Domino® Administrator is the administration client for Notes® and Domino. You can use the Domino Administrator to perform most administration tasks.
  - The Server Controller and the Domino® Console
    The Server Controller is a Java-based program that controls a Domino® server. Starting the Server Controller starts the Domino server it controls. When a server runs under a Server Controller, you can send operating system commands, Controller commands, and Domino server commands to the Server Controller.

      The Administration Process for the Domino® Directory must be set up on a server in each domain.

      - Scheduling Administration Request processing
        Each setting in the Administration Process section of the Server document controls the timing of specific types of requests. Interval settings and replication schedules for each server determine how quickly the administrative settings replicate throughout the domain. As these requests are carried out, the speed with which they are replicated to the appropriate databases in the domain depends on the replication schedule for those servers. If necessary, you can schedule separate replication events for more immediate updates.
      - Configuring auto-processing of rename requests
        You can configure the Administration Process to automatically process rename requests for users who have Notes IDs in the vault. This feature avoids the need for a user to authenticate with a Domino server from the Notes client to kick off rename processing.
      - Redefining time interval defaults for administration requests
        You can specify the time interval, other than the default time interval, in which a specific administration request will execute. The settings that you specify override the default settings.
      - Changing the number of threads used by the Administration Process
        By default, the Administration Process uses three threads to process requests. To improve Administration Process performance, increase the number of threads.
      - Defining special purpose threads for specific administration requests
        You can specify one or more special purpose threads for a class of administration requests or for a specific administration request. An administration request's "class" is the request's time frame: immediate or interval.

        By default, the Administration Process scans all documents in a database looking for matches in the Readers and Authors fields or Names fields, when an Administration Request for a particular value in that field is received.
      - Enhancing the Administration Process through the Extension Manager
        You can extend the Administration Process to enhance its current core functionality -- that is, processing all administration requests created through the Notes® user interface or by a Domino® server. Using the Extension Manager to extend the Administration Process, you can use the core Administration Process functionality and develop additional tasks based on Administration Process actions.
      - Using an extended administration server
        An extended administration server is an administration server that processes Domino® Directory administration requests.
    - Statistics generated during administration request processing
      The Administration Process records statistics to help you monitor the request processing activity of the administration process tasks.
    - Administration request messages
      The response Log documents in the Administration Requests database contain error messages that describe any errors that occur during the processing of an administration request. Error messages also appear on the console of the administration server. Administrators who want to be notified when one of these events occurs on a server, can create an Event Handler document in EVENTS4.NSF to define how they want to be notified.

      An administration request is created by the administrator performing an action; it represents an administration task and is run by the server task AdminP (Administration Process). When an administration request is generated, it appears in the Administration Requests database.
