Enabling shared login

Use a Security Settings document and a Policy document to enable shared login. The feature is disabled by default.

About this task

Complete the following steps to either require or allow users to use shared login.

Note: Shared login cannot be enabled on a Notes® client on which the Client Single Logon Feature is installed. If necessary, uninstall the Client Single Logon Feature on clients.

Procedure

  1. Create or edit a Security Settings document and click the Password Management > Notes Shared Login tab.
  2. Select the options that match the behavior you want.

    Enable shared login on Notes clients and require users to use the feature.

    • For the field Enable Notes shared login with the operating system select Yes.
    • For the field How to apply this setting select Set value whenever modified.
    • For the field Allow User Changes, select No.

    Enable shared login on Notes clients initially but allow users to control whether to use the feature.

    • For the field Enable Notes shared login with the operating system select Yes.
    • For the field How to apply this setting select Set initial value.
    • For the field Allow User Changes, select Yes.

    Disable shared login on Notes clients initially but allow users to control whether to use the feature.

    • For the field Enable Notes shared login with the operating system select No.
    • For the field How to apply this setting select Set initial value.
    • For the field Allow User Changes, select Yes.

    Enable shared login on Notes clients if Client Single Logon (available in earlier releases) is uninstalled during the upgrade to release 8.5. Shared login is enabled on these clients automatically.

    Note: If the Client Single Logon was not installed on clients, users can enable shared login by selecting Log in to Notes using your operating system login in the User Security window.
    • For the field Enable Notes shared login with the operating system select Yes.
    • For the field How to apply this setting select Don't set value.
    • For the field Allow User Changes, select Yes.
  3. Optional: Use a pop-window to notify users when shared login is activated.
  4. Add the Security Settings document to a policy, if you have not already done so.

Results

If you selected Yes toAllow User Changes, users can control whether to use the feature by selecting or clearing the Log in to Notes using your operating system login check box in the User Security window.
