Updating a database redirect

You can update a database redirect reference.

About this task

If a Notes® client is acting on a database redirect, and none of the references are meant for the client's user, the redirection will act as if the redirect contained no references. This can result in the client removing its references to the original database. Unless the limits are carefully constructed, the redirect may cause some clients to act as if the database was moved, while others will act as if the database was deleted. When limiting redirections, to avoid the possibility that some users may inadvertently have their references to the database removed, you may also want to add a reference that applies to all users.

Procedure

  1. From the Domino® Administrator, click the Files tab.
  2. Select the database for which you are updating a redirect reference.
  3. From the Tools pane, click Update Redirect.
  4. The Update Database Redirect dialog box appears with the selected redirect database file name, title, and replica ID fields completed. Click Add to specify the redirect replica references.
  5. On the Configure Redirect Replica Reference dialog box, specify the name of the server on which the replica is to reside, and then click OK.
  6. Select the database replica to which the Notes client users will be redirected.
  7. Do one of these:
    • Allow unrestricted redirection -- To allow unrestricted redirection, that is, to redirect any Notes client users to the updated redirect replica reference you are creating, click OK.
    • Limit who is redirected -- To limit who is redirected to the database replica, click the user icon and select the names of those users who can be redirected.
Tip: To select user names from the Access Control List of the source redirect database, click the Lock icon and choose the users you want to include. You can use the field, Access Level, to filter by access level, the user names that display in the list. Click the check box, Show access level and greater, to define a minimum access level instead of an absolute access level in the Access Level field.
  8. Click OK. The server name, file name and users who can be redirected display in the Redirect Replica References field of the Update Database Redirect dialog box.
  9. If you selected multiple redirect replicas, the Orders field is active. You can specify a redirect order of either random or sequential for the databases. The order you specify dictates whether the database replicas are used for redirecting in the sequential order in which they display in the field, or in a random order. By default, sequential is chosen.
  10. Click OK.
