Enabling network access for IBM Common Licensing

Communication ports on a host running Windows™ Firewall are closed by default. An exception must be granted for communications to and from the license server.

About this task

To open the firewall for the IBM Common Licensing license server, go to the Rational/common directory and double-click WinXPSP2.reg. This file imports the changes to the registry and opens the firewall for rational.exe and lmgrd.exe to use any ports.

If you did not use the default path (C:\Program Files\Rational\Common\) to install the IBM License Server, you must edit the WinXPSP2.reg file by replacing the C:\Program Files\Rational\Common in two locations in each line with the actual installation path.

Optionally, you can open the firewall for the IBM License Server manually, as follows:

Procedure

  1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Open the Internet Connection Firewall program and then click the Exceptions tab.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Select a program radio button.
  4. Browse to rational.exe (typically located at C:\Program Files\Rational\Common).
  5. Add a description, click OK, and click OK again until you return to the Internet Connection Firewall window.
  6. Repeat the previous steps to add lmgrd.exe (C:\Program Files\rational\common\) to the Exceptions tab.
Verify that rational.exe and lmgrd.exe are selected in the Programs and Services box in the Internet Connection Firewall window.
  7. Click OK. You might need to restart your computer.
