Software requirements and restrictions

Connections server prerequisites, supported mobile apps, and restrictions.

HCL Connections Server Software Prerequisites

  • HCL Connections 6.0 CR2 or later, or HCL Connections 6.0 CR1 plus the following interim fixes:
    • iFix 6.0.0.0_CR1-IC-Mobile-OAuth
    • iFix 6.0.0.0_CR1-IC-Mobile-OAuthSurveys (only required if you have installed and are using the Connections Surveys feature)
  • This capability applies only to Connections Server on-premises deployments at this time.

Supported Mobile Apps

  • Connections Mobile for iOS*, version 6.0.7 or later
  • Connections Mobile for Android *, version 6.0.7 or later
  • Connections Mobile for AirWatch (iOS), version 6.0.7 or later
  • Connections Mobile for AirWatch (Android), version 6.0.7 or later

* This base version of the Connections Mobile app supports both MaaS360 and MobileIron device management.

Restrictions

  • The Connections server URL /mobile/homepage/SecurityConfiguration must be configured as an unauthenticated URL on both WebSphere and on any edge-proxy used by the Connections Mobile Server application to access the connections server. This has always been recommended but in the case where OAuth authentication is used, this URL is now used for OAuth endpoint discovery prior to authentication.
  • The following features in Connections do not currently support mobile OAuth and will not be available in the Connections mobile app if OAuth is enabled:
    • Top updates and the Important-To-Me feature will not be available when using the Connections Orient Me feature. The Connections Mobile app will instead show the Latest Updates in the Updates tab.
    • The welcome setup wizard (Touchpoint)
    • Invite Guest extension
    • Activities Plus or Kudos Boards
  • HTTPS TLS based connections are required to both the Connections Server endpoint and the OAuth Authorization Server endpoint. Unencrypted HTTP sessions are not supported.
  • Both the Connections Server endpoint and the OAuth Authorization Server endpoint must be using a TLS certificate that has been generated by a trusted certificate authority. The root certificate for the certificate authority must have either been pre-installed on the device as part of the operating system or manually installed. OAuth based login is not possible using untrusted TLS certificates.
