You can use HCL Compass to perform daily activities after the schema developer and administrator define and set up the schema, schema repository, and user database.
HCL Compass Web is a browser-based interface to HCL Compass that runs on Windows, the UNIX system, and Linux. You can track defects and change requests in HCL Compass Web through this interface. When a session times out, you can re-authenticate and continue where you left off because the state of the user interface is retained.
Use the HCL Compass Client to submit, modify, and track change requests and to analyze project progress.
Queries are customized searches of a HCL Compass database.
Add filter definitions to queries to select only those database records that meet the criteria you define.
There are several ways to create queries in the HCL Compass for Windows® client that accommodate the types of queries you want to create and your level of experience.
You can create a query on the Query and Display editor pages of the Query window.
Use the Display editor in the Query window to customize your result-set display.
You can store frequently used fields in the Favorites folder for easy access when creating or editing queries.
You can sort on a field in ascending or descending order based on the field value. You can also specify the field sort order.
You can customize the column titles in your result-set display. By default, each column is titled with the name of the record field that it displays.
By default, all the fields that appear in the Display Fields pane of the Display editor are included in the result set when the Show check box is selected.
You can change the display of the result set after running the query by editing the fields in the Display editor. For the changes to take effect, you must run the query again.
You can include a header and footer when you print a result set.
You can search the text in record fields that are included in a result-set grid.
You can change the display settings to customize the appearance of the result-set grid.
You can save queries for repeated use in new login sessions.
You must have the SQL Editor privilege. You must also have a solid knowledge of SQL and your underlying HCL Compass database before editing the SQL properties of a query. After you modify the SQL properties, you can no longer edit the query from the HCL Compass user interface.
The application lifecycle management (ALM) packages and ALM schema provide out-of-the-box solutions for ensuring ALM best practices in your new or existing HCL Compass change management system.
