Vendor database configuration

HCL Compass schema repositories and user databases are types of databases that are physically managed by a database management system. Depending on your operating system, these management systems might include Microsoft™ SQL Server.

Depending on whether you are deploying HCL Compass or HCL Compass MultiSite, configuration tasks and restrictions might vary. Review the following sections closely to identify these tasks and restrictions.

If you are installing HCL Compass MultiSite, do not create HCL Compass databases at the replica site. When replicating an existing HCL Compass database set, you must create empty vendor databases at the new site. During the replication process, this empty database is converted to a HCL Compass database set.

You can use databases from different vendors. For example, you might want to use Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server databases for your schema repository and user databases in the production environment, and a Microsoft Access database for your test database. However, if you are using HCL Compass MultiSite , using databases from multiple vendors can create problems because case-sensitivity rules are not consistent across vendors.

Note: For detailed instructions on completing the tasks in the following topics, consult your database software documentation.
