About creating queries

There are several ways to create queries in the HCL Compass for Windows® client that accommodate the types of queries you want to create and your level of experience.

  • Run an existing query in the Personal Queries folder or the Public Queries folder that produces results similar to what you need. Then modify the query in the Query and Display editors and save it in your Personal Queries folder.
  • Use the Query Wizard to guide you through the query creation process. You can use an existing query a template, or you can create a new query.
  • Use the Query editor to define query filters and filter expressions, and the Display editor to configure the result set display.

The first time you create a query, the Query wizard guides you though the process of selecting display fields and selecting fields and corresponding values to use as filters. To disable the Query wizard and use the Query and Display editors in the Query window instead, click Query > Use Query Wizard.
