Discover Report Builder

The Discover Report Builder enables flexible report configuration and delivery in various output formats. Through the Report Builder, you can select events and drag their dimensional data into your report, applying segment filtration as needed.

As you apply changes, the report is updated in real-time, enabling precision report and data configuration. Report data is always synchronized to the Discover system timezone. Reports can be scheduled for generation and publication to Discover dashboards. To access Report Builder, select Reports > Report Builder from the Portal menu.

Basic Workflow

  1. Add events. To segment by multiple dimensions, you must use events that have report groups (facts) that contain both dimensions. In case of Deviations, you can add only a single event.
  2. Add dimensions to X-axis. By default, the X-axis contains the Hour of Day dimension. When the chart is displaying one day, Report Builder displays one hour buckets. Changing the X-axis dimension changes the way that the chart is rendered and the data that is returned for display. In the X-axis, you can include up to eight dimensions that share a common dimension to create an implied hierarchy of dimensional values. This hierarchy is for display purposes only and cannot be charted.
  3. Add dimensions to Y-axis. Adding dimensions to the Y-axis creates a vertical striping, slicing the measured data in each X-axis bucket by the Y-axis dimensional values. You can add up to one Y-axis dimension.
  4. Add segment. Adding a segment does not affect the chart display. However, the source of data for the chart is changed. You can apply up to eight dimensions as segments. If needed, you click the segment's drop-down menu to select dimensional values with which to filter the data.
  5. Configure date focus and comparison options.
  6. If you want, you can add a description for the report.
  7. Save your report.
  8. Optionally, you can export report data to Excel, PDF, or email format.

Building Reporting Data Structures

The Report Builder uses data that is identified in the captured transaction stream by using dimensions, events, and facts. These data entities are created in the Discover Portal. These data entities are organized into groups for easy association. Some pre-configured dimensions, events, and groups are provided in the default installation.

Refresh Refresh the displayed report or deviation. The Discover Report Builder monitors when data must be refreshed. Data is cached for five minutes. Clicking this button forces a refresh of the report or deviation data.
Actions >> Open Open a saved report or deviation.

For reports, when you browse for a report by label, all report labels are displayed, even if they contain Anomaly Detection reports only. Those labels are displayed as empty. If the user does not assign a label to a report, the report is given the Default label, and available under the Default label.

For deviations, when you browse for a deviation by label, all deviation labels are displayed.
Actions >> Save Save the report or deviation. If you have not yet saved it, enter a title for the report, and click Save. The Reports and Devations are stored in separate categories.
Actions >> Save As... Save the report or deviation under a different name.
Actions >> Delete Delete the report or deviation.
Details For reports, view details on the events, dimensions, and other components. For deviations, view details of the events.
Schedule Schedule execution and delivery of report or deviation.
Export Export the report. .
Add To Dashboard Add the report or deviation to a dashboard.
Options

Opens the Report Options dialog in case on Reports as well as Deviations.

For Reports, the Report Options dialog contains the following sections:
  • Display
  • Advanced
  • Data Item Order
In release 12.1.3, Unica Discover introduced two new fields in the Display section of the Report Options dialog for Reports. The fields are:
  • KPI - Allows the user to introduce a static KPI (Key Performance Indicator) line on the report. The KPI line only appears as a horizontal line (or the KPI line) on the chart and is always plotted on the Y-axis (Standard). KPI line is only applicable for Bar charts and Line charts.
  • KPI Color - The color to display the static KPI line in the Bar chart or Line chart. The available options are Black, Red, Orange, and Green.
For Deviations, the Report Options dialog contains only the Display section and the Display section limited fields as compared to Reports. The fields available in the Report Options dialog for Deviation are:
  • Report Title
  • Legend | Position
  • X-Axis | Label
  • X-Axis | Text Angle
  • Y-Axis (Standard) Label
For Report only. Display report as a vertical bar chart (default). Individual events can be configured to display in different chart types.
For Report only. Display report as a horizontal bar chart. Individual events can be configured to display in different chart types.
For Report only. Display report as a line graph. Individual events can be configured to display in different chart types.
For Report only. Display report as an area graph. Individual events can be configured to display in different chart types.
For Report only. Display report as a pie chart. Individual events can be configured to display in different chart types. You cannot apply functions or use Compare date ranges in pie charts.
For Report only. Display report as a funnel chart. Individual events can be configured to display in different chart types. You cannot apply functions or use Compare date ranges in funnel charts.
For Report only. Display report as a semi doughnut pie chart. Individual events can be configured to display in different chart types. You cannot apply functions or use Compare date ranges in semi doughnut pie charts.

Data Selector Panel

You can configure the data to include in your report through the Data Selector Panel. To add events, click the Events tab. To add dimensions, click the Dimensions tab.

Report Details

The Report Details window displays information about the currently selected report or deviation. For reports, it includes all the events, ratios, and dimensions. For deviations, it includes all the events.

As in Reports, you cannot drilldown report items in Deviation.

Title
The name of the saved report or deviation.
Description
The description can be edited next to the displayed chart.
Dates
The focus date range and, if applicable, the compare range.
Metrics
Events and ratios that are used in the report or deviation.
Filters
Dimensions that are applied to filter the report or deviation data.
