About managing nested references

Creating hierarchies of nested content references allows you to save time by creating sophisticated content relationships but doing so also adds a degree of complexity that you must manage carefully. For example, preventing circular references can become more difficult as you increase the number of reference labels in a series of nested references.

Including multiple levels of nested references also adds to the processing work that must perform to render content elements when you preview or publish a document. The greater the number of nested references, the longer it takes to preview or publish an email document.

To effectively manage nested references and to render the nested content efficiently, Unica strongly recommends that you avoid creating content reference hierarchies greater than 3 levels deep. Deliver enforces a maximum nesting limit of 10 levels.
