Configuring push notifications

To use Deliver to send notifications to mobile apps, you must configure a notification push. Create the push as part of the campaign that you use to select recipients of the push. To specify the content and behavior of the notifications, reference a push communication that is created in advance with the Quick Builder. To specify who receives the notifications, you can reference a list of recipients.

Before you begin

Configuring a push requires components and configurations that are prepared in advance. Confirm that the following messaging tasks are complete.

  • Your hosted messaging account is enabled for mobile messaging.
  • System administrators have registered the mobile app with Deliver and generated an app key.
  • App developers have integrated the Unica Push Notification SDK into your mobile app for each operating system to which you plan to send notifications.
  • The push communication that you plan to reference is complete and published.
  • If you are sending notifications to a list, complete a production run of the flowchart that generates the OLT to ensure that the table contains the most recent recipient data.
  • If you plan to use constant personalization fields, confirm that they are defined in the Deliver configuration and that you are sending notifications to a list.

About this task

Sending the push to a list sends a personalized notification to each individual on the list. Typically, a production list includes many app users and each notification can be unique, depending on how the notifications are personalized. The recipient list is created as an Output List Table (OLT) in Campaign. The OLT contains values for personalization fields that are defined in the communication that the push references. It also contains values to identify the mobile device for each individual on the list.

Each push sends notifications to a specific type of mobile device. To send notifications to an app that runs on multiple operating systems, you must send multiple pushes.

System administrators define a default personalization field to provide the mobile app user ID. If the selected OLT contains the default personalization field, the default field displays.

If the OLT does not contain the default field, the Source for mobile app user ID field displays the first personalization field that is defined in the OLT. You must select the field in the OLT that maps to the mobile user ID.

  5. Specify values for constant personalization fields.
