Defining sample data for personalization fields

You can define sample data for personalization fields at the installation level or at the document level.

To define sample data for the installation, define sample data for personalization fields using the Deliver Personalization Fields page, accessed from the Settings menu. When you define sample data at the installation level, the same sample data appears in the preview for every document that contains the field. For more information about defining sample data for personalization fields at the installation level, see Editing personalization field properties.

To define sample data for a document, open the Preview pane of the Deliver Message Editor. Changing sample data in the Message Editor allows you to experiment with how data might appear in a particular message, without affecting other documents. However, you can change the sample data for the entire installation in the Preview pane by saving your changes as the default sample value for the personalization field. For more information about changing personalization field sample data at the document level, seePersonalization fields in communication previews.

The type of sample data that you enter must match the data type (numeric or string) specified for the personalization field in the Available Fields section of the Deliver process used to define the field. To enable Deliver to validate sample data type, the OLT that defines the personalization field and the document that uses the field must be referenced by the same mailing. For more information about determining the data type of a personalization field, seeContents of the Deliver process Output tab.
