Changing the name of a reference label

You can change the name of a reference label, but changes you make here can affect other templates and content elements.

About this task

The system validates your changes for the following conditions.

  • Other content elements reference the label you want to change.
  • The new name that you want to use is already in use by another content element.

Procedure

  1. In the Content Library, open the content element for editing.
  2. In the Reference Label field, change the name of the reference label.
  3. To save the new reference label, as a property of the content element, click Save Changes Diskette image .

The system validates your changes and warns you of potential conflicts.

    • The system displays a warning if other content elements refer to the label you are changing. Click Find Label References Window with magnifying glass image for a list of templates and content elements that will be affected if you continue.
    • If your changes result in a label name that is already associated with another content element, the system warns you that the label name is already in use. If you do not want to change the content associated with the label indicated in the warning, click Cancel and choose another name.

If you continue, any document that includes the reference label indicated in the warning will change. It will now use the content element that you are editing instead of what it displayed previously. This may not be what you intend to do. Consider the implications of such a change carefully.
